Description

Your first graders read a short October story with a word bank, then restate the question, answer it, copy the words that prove it, tell why, and sum it up with "So,". Starters like "The story says" and "This shows" sit right on the primary lines.

The stories are written at a real October first grade level, every question can be proved from the story, and the teacher key has a model answer for all 30. Start the month with Stage 1 and move students to Stage 2 when they are ready.

What's included:
- 30 October stories first graders can read (about 35 to 55 words, about 6 words per sentence), one for every school day of the month
- A story page for every story with a large picture, a word bank, and the question
- Stage 1: Draw and Write; Stage 2: Read and Write all five steps on primary-ruled lines with a starter on every line
- An I Can checklist on every sheet, plus I Can desk cards
- A full R.A.C.E.S. model answer for all 30 stories, written at a first grade level
- A 5-step R.A.C.E.S. rubric with a student self-check
- Sentence starter bookmarks, a student tracker, and a class tracker
- A 2-page teacher guide and a story index with the Halloween week stories marked
- Every page in color and in black and white, plus 7 R.A.C.E.S. posters

Perfect for: Daily reading response or morning work all October; Teaching text evidence with a routine many schools already use; Small groups, centers, and homework; Halloween week stories that stay calm and kind
